La réception internationale de séries américaines: une comparaison France/Chine

Abstract : This work aims to understand the reception of the American television sitcom Modern Family by French and Chinese students. The first part of this research points up disparities of interpretation between French and Chinese receivers and the second one the congruent elements. The analysis of the sociocultural context of France and China is based on the theory of reception. Actually, the receptions partly differ in the most important place granted by the Chinese audience to family relationships while the French audience regards the mode of production of the series as more important. Although the French audience’s critical reading on scenario, stereotypic usage of decors and dialogues are less present among Chinese students, a large part of ideas and social values as well as family values of series are recognized as much by the French audience as by the Chinese one: among these, love, family and mutual assistance between relatives are rated as the most important.
