The GATES project was launched as part of the France 2030 plan through the “ExcellenceS sous toutes ses formes” initiative, one of the key instruments of the fourth Programme d’investissements d’avenir (PIA). Its goal is to strengthen the visibility and attractiveness of Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA). The GATES project is structured around three objectives:
- International attractiveness of researchers, drawing on exceptional research infrastructures through:
- Jointly supervised PhDs with major European facilities such as the European Synchrotron Radiaiton Facility (ESRF), the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), the Institut de radioastronomie millimétrique (IRAM) and the European Magnetic Field (EMFL).
- Matching PhDs, postdoctoral positions, fellowships, and mobility programmes with the Maison de la création et de l'innovation (MACI).
- Strengthening the attractiveness of the humanities and social sciences, by enhancing research data capacities through the creation of a cross-cutting research support service.
- Education and training, through the development of an attractive, distinctive, and personalized undergraduate programme, including mentoring, support for profesionnal integration and oppurtunities to pursue research studies.
